GENERAL HELP
Q:
Is the radiation from a mobile phone damaging my health?
A:
Mobile phones are transmitters and receivers. All mobile phones are designed to international guidelines so as not to exceed radio wave exposure.

The exposure guidelines employ a unit of measurement called Specific Absorption Rate (SAR).

The maximum SAR limit stated in the ICNIRP guidelines is 2.0 watts/kilogram (W/kg) averaged over 10 grams of tissue.

(independent scientific organization - ICNIRP).
E.g. Nokia N96 SAR = 0.91W/kg (at the ear)

Q:
How long will my battery last?
A:
Battery life is dependant on several factors.

The amount of time in a call - received or dialled.

Bluetooth is left on all the time. It will still drain the battery even if it is not connected to a bluetooth device.

If you are in a weaker signal area the phone uses more power to access the cell site so more drain to the battery.

Accessing the internet uses constant power so battery life will fall, if left connected.

Sending text messages uses power so the more texting you do the less battery life you will have.

Standby battery life quoted by manufacturers is exactly that - the time your phone will stay on in standby mode. As soon as you start using the features battery life will diminish.

E.g. Standby is quoted at 400 hrs and call time is 10 hrs as soon as you make a 30 min call the standby time could be reduced by as much as 20 hrs.

Q:
I dropped my phone down the loo. What should I do?
A:
Take the battery out straight away. Wipe clean. Put the phone somewhere warm to dry. Do not put the battery back in for at least 24 hours.

This will not not fix the phone but it will give it a fighting chance. Once any electronic equipment gets wet it is a write off.

Liquid damage may not stop the phone from working straight away but it will eventually. Manufacturers will not repair liquid damage at all.

Q:
My phone has developed a fault and won't perform correctly.
A:
The first thing to do is switch it off and remove the battery.

This may seem silly but a mobile phone is basically a small computer. Computers occasionally crash and need a "reboot" and so do phones.

Q:
How many numbers can I save on an O2 sim card?
A:
Max is 250 Names and Numbers
Grey Spacer
Q:
Can I restrict my phones to only dial certain numbers?
A:
Yes - It is called fixed dialling and it is a sim card feature (sim, handset and network dependant)
Grey Spacer
Q:
How many fixed dial numbers can I have?
A:
On O2 you can have 20 fixed numbers on a standard sim card and 150 on a special sim card.

Q:
Once the sim is fixed dial can it be removed to dial any number if necessary?
A:
Yes it can with a special Pin 2 code which is predetermined. However only on the standard sim the special fixed dial sim is always restricted.

Q:
My bill is higher than the price quoted?
A:
If you have agreed to a tariff change or to add some bolt ons, then when you receive your first bill, you'll see two separate 'Month Charges':
  1. Pro Rata - the period from the date that you upgraded until the time of your next bill.

  2. The full monthly charge in advance for the entire following month.
Remember, you'll also receive a pro rata included calls discount up to the full amount of the pro rata monthly charge (provided that the calls you made are included in the minimum monthly spend of your plan).

Pro-Rata billing will only take place if you have chosen a new tariff during your upgrade. If you have chosen to keep your current tariff then you won't see a change on your bill.

Important advice:

Because so much information can be stored in a mobile phone it is highly recommended that your mobile phone is backed up on a regular basis.

There are a number of issues that could occur which will stop you from retrieving your information. (E.g phone dropped and damaged, liquid damage or even lost altogether.)
